Welcome. We hope you all had a happy, safe, and festive season. We wish you a prosperous 2024!
This is about the time that New Year's Resolutions, made resolutely last week, are evaporating like the morning dew. Waking up early, going to the gym, eating healthier, spending more time with the family – these and many other resolutions might not last the month. What's the matter?
James Clear, in his book, "Atomic Habits", has a different approach. He says you should forget about setting goals. Focus on your system instead. Goals are about the results you want. Systems are the processes that lead to those results. If you’re having trouble changing your habits, the problem isn’t you. The problem is your system. Bad habits repeat themselves, not because you don’t want to change, but because you have the wrong system for change.
He advocates making small, incremental changes, not big leaps like Resolutions. The tiny improvements add up over time and become positive habits. Have a try.

From Monday 15 to Thursday 18 January 2024 prices will reduce by 15%. This applies to both annual and 3-year subscriptions. There's a limit of 20 new subscriptions per customer.

Autodesk is raising the price of most subscription renewals by about 5% from February. Customers can renew as early as 90 days before their contracts expire. All renewal customers up to 30 April 2024 can thus avoid the 5% increase if you renew by 16:00 on 31 January 2024.

Do you have a fibre line for the internet but are not running your telephone using it? You could be wasting money on phone bills.
VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) allows you to run your voice calls over the Internet. For a company, this can do away with a wired PABX (Private Automatic Branch Exchange). Instead, you could use a virtual hosted switchboard in the cloud.
We got ours some years ago through Switch Telecom, installed by Platinum ICT. Switchtel will port your phone numbers: Your contact details won't change.
Not for engineers alone, the Excel for Engineers course is available online as a self-paced course. The same manual and examples as the live version. The same trainer. A simple tip to start the New Year.
You probably know that in Excel you can grab a sheet tab (at the bottom of the sheet) and move it to a different position, between other sheets. This is useful if you want to have the sheets in a different order:
.
But did you know that you can copy a sheet --with all its contents-- with a very similar move? All you have to do is to hold the Ctrl key while dragging the sheet tab. The mouse icon gets a "plus" (+) added to it. When you release the mouse, your copy of the sheet appears where you dropped it.
The new sheet will have the name of the copied sheet, with a number added. You can easily rename the sheet by double-clicking the name tab. Or right-click the tab and choose the Rename option on the pop-up menu.
Next time: Another new topic.
Why not do the Excel Macros online course before you start work again? Learn to do repetitive work in a flash, instead of repeating the same boring stuff by hand. Save hours not working late, and spend more time with your family... The Software Africa Quick 'n Easy Turbo-Start Excel Macros course is online. Take it now before the price goes up.
