On-Line Business Tip #29: Google Hacks 7 -  View Google’s Cached Version :

Google is the world's most popular search engine. So it helps to know a bit more about using it than the average person.

It is easy to go to www.google.co.za and type in a website address, yours for example, for Google to open.  But what if the page is slow or does not respond?

Google takes a snapshot of each web page as a backup in case the current page isn't available. These pages then become part of Google’s cache. If the website you're trying to visit is slow or not responding, you can use the cached link instead..

To do this, put "cache:" (note the colon) before the web address. For example, cache:megaplex.co.za

You will see Google's cache of the page. It will tell you the date and time they took the snapshot of the page (the live page could have changed in the meantime).  This is also useful for webmasters to get an idea of how up to date Google's records are. Try it now with your website!

90-day Subscription Renewal Reminder Added

Customers reminded 90 days in advance to renew their subscription.

In an effort to increase our subscription renewal rates, we recently began sending 90-day renewal reminder emails to customers in addition to our standard 45-, 30-, and 4-day reminders.

Our goal is to give customers more advance notice that their maintenance plan will be expiring soon and to remind them of their renewal options. The renewal reminders are stopped once a subscription has been renewed.

As previously announced, we have also added that customers can save 10% when they switch to a subscription with 3-year terms at renewal time*.

Take a moment to view these Post-Purchase Nurture Communications and use this as an opportunity to follow-up with customers about their upcoming subscription renewal.

* Savings of 3-year subscriptions is compared to the applicable Autodesk suggested retail price for 3 consecutive, annual subscriptions. Autodesk partners are independent and free to set their own prices.

Announcing Autodesk Q2-Q3 Global Field Promotion (GFP)

Autodesk is pleased to provide a special offer encouraging eligible customers with 2014-2019 perpetual licenses not on maintenance to upgrade to subscription.

From May 7 through October 25, 2019, you may receive up to 20% off the Suggested Retail Price of a new 1- or 3-year subscription when you terminate your associated perpetual license.

In addition to more value and flexibility than perpetual licenses, you can save up to 20% when trading in qualifying perpetual licenses that are not on maintenance plans, for a subscription to the latest Autodesk industry collections or to most individual products—like AutoCAD® including specialized toolsets, AutoCAD LT® , Civil 3D® , Revit® , Inventor® , 3ds Max® and more.

Excel Tip #178 – The Excel Visual Basic Editor

Last time we looked inside the macro you recorded the previous time.  Let us now examine the program we use to edit the macro.

In Excel, press Alt+F11 to open the Visual Basic Editor.

If MacroDemo1.xlsx is open, you should see the following:

If you do not see the Project window pane on the left, press Ctrl+R. This window lists the various files you have open at the moment.  In the illustration we see MacroDemo1.xlsx at the top and, below it, PERSONAL.XLSB.  Each one has a VBAProject.  Within that, we see "Microsoft Excel Objects".  The Objects are the sheets, "ThisWorkbook", and Modules.  Each one can have code.  You can click the "+" next to any item to expand the tree.

The window pane on the right is the Code window pane, which contains the code for the module that is highlighted (double-clicked) on the left.

At the top of the window we have an old-style menu: File Edit View Insert Format Debug Run Tools Add-Ins Window and Help.

Beneath that are the toolbars.  Yours might be different.  The ones shown above are the Edit and Standard toolbars.  You can grab them by the dotted left-hand edge and drag them around, as you can also do with the menu itself.  To show or hide toolbars, use the View menu > Toolbars, and tick or untick the required toolbar.

Next time we'll look in more detail at the Visual Basic Editor's menu.
